Panamanian cinema reaches new latitudes. Salmones Rosas, a feature film directed by Oscar Faarup, triumphed in India at the Rani Durgavati International Film Festival (RDIFF), a powerful event based in Jabalpur that for six years has spotlighted the best of independent world cinema.
Salmones Rosas's run at the RDIFF translated into a historic haul of awards. The film was recognized with awards for Best Dialogue, Best Screenplay and Best Editing, as well as Best Sound Design, which went to Mario Spinali. In the acting categories, Aurora Van Hoorde won Best Young Actress, Julia Dorto was honored as Best Actress and Juan Raúl Díaz Fábregas took the Best Actor award. Oscar Faarup's work earned him Best Director, to which he added the Best Cinematography award.
As the crowning achievement, Salmones Rosas claimed the festival's highest honor, the Best Film award, granted to the production company Opera Films, under the production of Omar Calvo, alongside the production company Faarup Entertainment and the national television channel SERTV.
